Expanding the Continuum of Services:
How to Become a Medicare Part B Physician Provider
Home health and hospice agencies are establishing Part B physician practices as part of the services
they offer. Physician and Advanced Practice Nurses can be utilized to provide primary care to the homebound and frail elderly as well
as palliative care consultation services in a variety of settings. This two-part audio teleconference is designed to give you the hands
on detail needed to evaluate whether you should establish a physician practice. In Part I, we will cover the items you need to address
in establishment of the practice model and the application process for Medicare Part B. Part II shares hands-on approaches to running a
practice including office management, medical records systems, and billing options. If you are considering expansion of your mission into

Proposed Medicare Hospice Benefit Conditions of Participation: What's New?
June 28th, 2005, 12:30 - 2:00 pm EST
The new proposed Hospice Conditions of Participation (CoP) are expected to
be printed in the Federal Register at the end of May 2005 under the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to allow for a 60-day comment period.
It is very important for all Hospices to review the proposed CoPs, analyze the potential impact of these changes and comment within that
time period (end of July 2005). The Hospice CoPs have not been rewritten since the beginning of the Medicare Hospice Benefit in 1983;
the opportunity to impact the Hospice CoPs may not occur again for another 20+ years. To help hospices understand the proposed changes,
the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) has asked the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) staffers responsible
for rewriting the CoPs to do a presentation and discuss the reasoning behind the changes being proposed. This workshop will review the
proposed changes and compare them with the current regulations to explore how they will impact a hospice's day-to-day operations.
Presenters will emphasize the areas where CMS is particularly looking for input. It is important for Hospices to understand that
changes to the proposed CoPs are anticipated based on the comments CMS receives from Hospice providers.
Workshop Objectives At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify differences between the old and new CoPs.
- Discuss the impact of the new CoPs on hospice operations.
- Identify the specific areas where CMS is seeking hospice input.
Faculty: Mary Rossi-Coajou, MS, RN, Nurse Consultant, Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, CMS, Baltimore, MD; and Danielle N. Shearer,
Health Insurance Specialist, Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, CMS, Baltimore, MD.
Course Level: Intermediate; 1.8 Nursing CEs (MNA Approval Pending); 1.0 Accounting CPE (NASBA/SKA)
