Opening General Session

Opening General Session: National Update

The traditional opening of the annual Financial Management Conference is the National Update on legislative, regulatory, and legal issues. This year, health care reform presents an unprecedented breadth and depth of change for home care and hospice. The legislated reforms are now law and the action has shifted on the regulatory implementation. This plenary session reviews those monumental changes and offers a forecast on their impact to home care and hospice in 2010 and beyond.

Objectives:

  • Identify the legislative changes that will impact home care and hospice;
  • Identify the regulatory issues that will come out of the health care reform law; and
  • Explain the opportunities and challenges that these reforms bring to home care and hospice.

Faculty: Val J. Halamandaris, President, National Association for Home Care & Hospice, Washington, D.C. and William A. Dombi, Vice President for Law, National Association for Home Care & Hospice, and Director, Home Health & Hospice Financial Manager’s Association, Washington, D.C.

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of legislative, regulatory and legal issues in home care and hospice.

General Session: HHFMA Leadership Panel
9:15 to 10:55 am

The HHFMA Leadership Panel is one of the annual highlights of the Financial Management Conference and 2010 will be no exception. The dramatic changes in health care delivery and finance that are triggered by the health care reform legislation will demand creativity, ingenuity, and significant energy from home care professionals to gain full advantage of the opportunities and to conquer the upcoming challenges. The esteemed panelists, representing a wide range of interests in home care and hospice, will offer their insights and observations on the changed environment and what are the best moves forward.

Objectives:

  • Identify the critical elements of change that will be driven by health care reform;
  • Discuss the opportunities for home care and hospice that should come from the reforms and how to secure the benefits of these opportunities; and
  • Describe the strategies for success in the new health care reform aftermath.

Open Financial Managers Forum

Once again, HHFMA presents it’s open, no-holds-barred forum meeting to conclude the annual conference. The session addresses any and all issues of interest to the conference faculty and attendees. The insights are endless, all the advice is free and the experience is priceless.
